Cellar 47 was established in 1977 by Angelo Grasso, a young man with a clear ambition to open an Italian restaurant. Originally working as a sugar cane cutter in Ingham and later as a fruit picker, Angelo entered the hospitality industry without formal experience. Through determination and self-education, he developed his culinary knowledge and built a reputation for delivering high-quality food and memorable dining experiences.
In 1981, Angelo married his wife Franca, who soon became an integral part of the business. The restaurant first operated from a cellar at 47 High Street—an origin that inspired the now well-known name, Cellar 47.
In 1995, the business relocated to a larger premises, where it continues to operate today, hosting countless memorable occasions.
Over time, the business has evolved into a family-run operation across generations. While Angelo and Franca remain actively involved, their children, Bianca and John, now oversee the day-to-day operations.
With nearly five decades of experience, Angelo, Franca, Bianca, and John—alongside head chef Jake McPherson and the broader Cellar 47 team—continue to deliver exceptional food and service in the heart of Shepparton’s CBD.
